Mo Hayder
Beatrice Clare Dunkel (born Clare Damaris Bastin; 2 January 1962 – 27 July 2021), known by the pen name Mo Hayder, was a British novelist best known for dark, gritty crime and thriller fiction. She began her career in modelling and acting (under the name Candy Davis) before publishing her debut novel Birdman (2000). Hayder created the DI Jack Caffery series and wrote several stand‑alone thrillers, winning the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 2012 for Gone and receiving the CWA Dagger in the Library in 2011. Her work is noted for its atmospheric, often disturbing exploration of crime, trauma and the effects of history.
