Patricia Cornwell (born Patricia Carroll Daniels) is an American crime novelist best known for the Kay Scarpetta series. Her work emphasizes forensic science and detailed investigative procedures; her debut novel Postmortem (1990) launched a bestselling career. Cornwell has also written investigative nonfiction (including work on Jack the Ripper), donated to forensic and art institutions, and remains a prominent figure in contemporary crime fiction.
