George Reginald Turner was an Australian writer and critic, best known for his science fiction novels. He had a varied career, including military service and various jobs before becoming a successful mainstream novelist and literary critic. He later transitioned to writing science fiction, gaining international acclaim for works that often explored moral and social issues, such as environmental concerns and political corruption. His novel 'The Sea and Summer' (published as 'Drowning Towers' in the US) won the Arthur C. Clarke Award and was shortlisted for the Nebula Award. He also won multiple Ditmar Awards.
