George R. R. Martin (born September 20, 1948) is an American novelist and short-story writer best known for the epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into the HBO series Game of Thrones. Martin's work blends the imagination of fantasy with a hard-edge realism and political complexity; he has also written science fiction and horror and edited numerous anthologies.
