Amitav Ghosh (born 11 July 1956) is an Indian novelist and non-fiction writer whose work frequently explores historical subjects, migration, colonialism and the cultural effects of climate change. He is the author of novels such as The Circle of Reason, The Shadow Lines, The Calcutta Chromosome and the Ibis Trilogy (Sea of Poppies; River of Smoke; Flood of Fire), and influential non-fiction including The Great Derangement and The Nutmeg's Curse. Ghosh has received multiple national and international literary awards and is widely regarded as one of India's leading contemporary writers.
