Patrick Taylor, M.D., (born 1941) is a Northern Irish–born physician, medical researcher and bestselling novelist. He trained and practised medicine in Belfast and rural Ulster before emigrating to Canada in 1970 where he pursued an academic career in reproductive medicine and obstetrics & gynaecology, later becoming Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia. Taylor is best known for his Irish Country series—warm, character-driven historical novels set in mid-20th-century Northern Ireland—many of which have been international bestsellers. He lives on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
