George P. Pelecanos (born 1957) is an American novelist, essayist and television writer/producer best known for gritty crime fiction set in and around Washington, D.C. He has written numerous novels and story collections, contributed scripts to HBO series including The Wire and Treme, and co-created shows with David Simon. His work often explores urban life, music, race and the consequences of violence.
