Joe Gores
Joseph Nicholas Gores (1931-2011) was an American mystery writer, best known for his novels and short stories set in San Francisco. He drew heavily on his twelve years of experience as a private investigator for San Francisco's David Kikkert & Associates, which specialized in repossessing cars. His DKA Files series, featuring "Dan Kearney and Associates," is a thinly veiled depiction of these experiences. Gores was a three-time Edgar Award winner and also received Japan's Maltese Falcon Award and the Private Eye Writers of America's lifetime achievement award. He also wrote screenplays and television scripts for popular series like 'Columbo' and 'Magnum, P.I.'
