Alicia Erian is an American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and film director. Born in Syracuse, New York, she is the daughter of an Egyptian father and an American mother of Polish descent. Erian received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Binghamton University and a Master of Fine Arts in writing from Vermont College. Her work has appeared in publications such as Zoetrope: All Story, the Iowa Review, and Playboy. She has published one collection of short stories, "The Brutal Language of Love" (2001), and one novel, "Towelhead" (2005). "Towelhead" was adapted into a film. Erian has also worked as a film director and screenwriter and taught creative writing at Wellesley College. She is currently completing a memoir.
