Laura Joh Rowland

Laura Joh Rowland is an American author known for her historical mystery novels. She is best recognized for her Sano Ichiro series, set in feudal Japan during the late 17th century, and her Victorian Mystery series, featuring a crime photographer in London. Rowland's work is characterized by meticulous historical research and a deep understanding of human nature, exploring themes of justice, crime, and political intrigue. She is also the author of a historical suspense series about Charlotte Brontë. Before becoming a writer, Rowland had a career in microbiology and public health, holding degrees from the University of Michigan. She is the granddaughter of Chinese-American and Korean-American immigrants.
