Joan Holub

Joan Holub is a prolific American author and illustrator of over 180 children's books. She has also used the pen names Rita Book and Brad Bucks. Holub was born in Texas in 1956 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas. She worked as an art director before moving to New York City to work as an associate art director at Scholastic. She began illustrating children's books in 1992 and writing full-time in the mid-1990s. Her work often focuses on themes of friendship, cooperation, and bravery.
