Roxane van Iperen

Roxane van Iperen (b. 1976) is a Dutch writer and jurist. She previously worked as a lawyer and investigative journalist. Her debut novel, "Schuim der aarde" (Scum of the Earth), was published in 2016 and won the Hebban Debut Prize. Her second book, "'t Hooge Nest" (The High Nest), published in 2018, became a bestseller and was internationally released as "The Sisters of Auschwitz." This book, based on the true story of two Jewish sisters who ran a safe house during WWII, led to a six-year investigation by van Iperen after she moved into the house herself in 2012. She has also written the Book Week essay "De genocidefax" (The Genocide Fax) and delivered the 4 May reading. Van Iperen is known for her financial and economic perspective, her analysis of power structures, and her sharp observations on social issues, often exploring themes of injustice, survival, trauma, courage, and moral responsibility.
