William Deverell

William Herbert Deverell (born March 4, 1937) is a Canadian novelist, criminal lawyer, and civil liberties activist. A former journalist and practicing trial lawyer, he is best known for courtroom and crime fiction — including the Arthur Beauchamp series — and has won awards such as the Dashiell Hammett Prize and multiple Arthur Ellis Awards. He is also the founder and honorary director of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association and has written screenplays and radio plays.
