Brian Fikkert is a professor of economics and community development at Covenant College and the founder and executive director of The Chalmers Center for Economic Development. He is the co-author of the best-selling book "When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself." His work focuses on poverty alleviation, social innovation, and a biblical perspective on economics and poverty. He has consulted for organizations such as the World Bank and the United States Agency for International Development. Fikkert's approach emphasizes understanding the root causes of poverty, which he defines as broken relationships with God, self, others, and creation, and advocates for a holistic, asset-based approach to ministry. He has also authored or co-authored several other books, including "Becoming Whole: Why the Opposite of Poverty Isn't the American Dream" and "Practicing the King's Economy."
