
Aldona Jonaitis
Aldona Jonaitis is an American art historian, author, and director emerita of the University of Alaska Museum of the North. She has written several books focusing on Indigenous Northwest Coast art. She was a professor at Stony Brook University and later served as vice president for public programs at the American Museum of Natural History. In 1993, she moved to Alaska to become the director of the University of Alaska Museum of the North and a professor of anthropology at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. She has received awards for her work in Alaska and for curating exhibitions. Jonaitis has also returned to creating art, particularly with pastels, focusing on animals and horses.
