Frank McCourt (1930–2009) was an Irish-American writer best known for his memoir Angela's Ashes (1996), which recounts his impoverished childhood in Limerick, Ireland. The book won the Pulitzer Prize and brought McCourt international recognition. He later wrote the memoirs ' 'Tis (1999) and Teacher Man (2005). Before becoming a best-selling author, McCourt taught in New York City public schools and at universities.
