Amanda Lindhout is a Canadian journalist, humanitarian and author. She rose to prominence after being kidnapped in Somalia in 2008 and held for 15 months; she was released in November 2009. Her bestselling memoir A House in the Sky (co-written with Sara Corbett) recounts her childhood, travels and captivity, and her subsequent humanitarian work founding the Global Enrichment Foundation to support education for women in Somalia. Lindhout is also a public speaker and advocate for reconciliation and development.
