Jean M. Auel

Jean Marie Auel (née Untinen; born February 18, 1936) is an American novelist best known for the Earth's Children series, a set of bestselling novels set in prehistoric Europe that explore interactions between Cro-Magnon people and Neanderthals. The series includes The Clan of the Cave Bear (1980) and five sequels, and has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide. Auel conducted extensive archaeological and ethnographic research in preparation for her novels and has received honorary degrees and international recognition for her work.
