Farley McGill Mowat (May 12, 1921 – May 6, 2014) was a Canadian writer, naturalist and environmentalist known for books about the North, wildlife and human interaction with nature. He published more than 40 books (including Never Cry Wolf and People of the Deer), campaigned on environmental issues, and was a prominent and sometimes controversial voice in Canadian letters. His work blended reportage, memoir and advocacy and was translated into many languages.
