Mary Lawson

Mary Lawson (born 1946) is a Canadian novelist best known for her debut Crow Lake (2002) and later novels The Other Side of the Bridge, Road Ends, and A Town Called Solace. Born and raised in a small farming community in southwestern Ontario, Lawson studied psychology at McGill University and later moved to Britain where she worked as an industrial psychologist. Her fiction is frequently set in Northern Ontario and is noted for its careful character work, emotional restraint, and evocations of rural landscapes. She has received awards including the McKitterick Prize and the Books in Canada First Novel Award and has been longlisted for the Booker Prize.
