Heinrich Harrer

Heinrich Harrer (1912–2006) was an Austrian mountaineer, geographer, and author best known for his memoir Seven Years in Tibet, which recounts his experiences in Tibet from 1944–1951 and his friendship with the young 14th Dalai Lama. Harrer was also an accomplished alpine climber (member of the 1938 Eiger North Face party) and wrote several books on mountaineering, exploration, and travel.
