Elizabeth Peters
Barbara Louise Mertz (writing as Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels) was an American Egyptologist and bestselling novelist. She earned a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago in 1952 and wrote popular nonfiction about ancient Egypt as well as numerous mystery and suspense novels. Under the pen name Elizabeth Peters she is best known for the Amelia Peabody historical mystery series, which blends archaeological adventure, humor, and Victorian-era settings.
