L. Ron Hubbard

Lafayette Ronald "L. Ron" Hubbard (1911–1986) was an American writer best known for founding the Church of Scientology and for his influential — and controversial — writings on Dianetics. He began his career as a prolific writer of pulp fiction, producing science fiction, fantasy, and adventure stories, and later authored numerous works on Dianetics and Scientology. Hubbard's career combined popular genre fiction with the development of a religious movement that remains active and controversial.
