Poul William Anderson (November 25, 1926 – July 31, 2001) was an American writer best known for science fiction and fantasy. Trained in physics, he produced a prolific body of novels and short fiction across hard science fiction, space opera, alternate history and fantasy, and was noted for rigorous scientific detail, interest in Norse and medieval sources, and a long career spanning from the late 1940s through 2001.
