L. Frank Baum (1856–1919) was an American author, actor, and filmmaker best known for creating the Land of Oz in his classic children's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Before finding success as a writer, he worked in various fields, including journalism, theater, and retail. He wrote numerous novels, short stories, and poems, often using various pseudonyms, and was a pioneer in bringing his stories to the stage and screen.
