Susan Cooper

Susan Mary Cooper (born 23 May 1935) is an English author best known for her children's and young adult fantasy, particularly The Dark Is Rising sequence. Born in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, she studied English at Somerville College, Oxford, worked as a reporter for The Sunday Times, and later emigrated to the United States. Her awards include the 1976 Newbery Medal for The Grey King and the 2012 Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime contribution to writing for teens. She has written novels, picture books, and screenplays and continues to be active in literary circles.
