M. J. Hyland
M. J. Hyland (Maria Joan Hyland) is a novelist and short story writer, formerly a lawyer. She is the author of How the Light Gets In (2003), Carry Me Down (2006) and This Is How (2009). Carry Me Down was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and won the Hawthornden Prize and the Encore Prize. Her fiction and non-fiction have appeared in publications including Granta, The Guardian and the London Review of Books. She has taught creative writing and been writer-in-residence at several institutions.
