Uri Orlev (born Jerzy Henryk Orłowski) was a Polish-born Israeli children's author and translator. A Holocaust survivor, he wrote more than 30 books—many drawing on his wartime childhood and early years in Israel—translated into dozens of languages. He received major honors including the Hans Christian Andersen Award (1996) and the Bialik Prize (2006).
