Rena Barron is an American author of middle grade and young adult fantasy, best known for the Kingdom of Souls trilogy and the Maya and the Rising Dark middle grade series. She grew up in small-town Alabama and now lives in Chicago. Her work draws on West African-inspired mythology and centers diverse characters; Kingdom of Souls received starred reviews and professional recognition, and film rights were acquired for the trilogy.
