Judith Rumelt, known by her pen name Cassandra Clare, is an American author best known for The Mortal Instruments and other books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. Born to American parents in Tehran, Iran, she spent much of her childhood travelling in Europe and later lived in Los Angeles and New York. Clare began her professional writing career with short fiction and worked in entertainment magazines before turning to young-adult fantasy full time; her debut novel City of Bones launched the bestselling Mortal Instruments series.
