Joseph Conrad (born Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski) was a Polish-British novelist and short-story writer who became one of the most important figures in English literature. He wrote in English though Polish was his first language; his works often explore themes of imperialism, isolation, moral ambiguity, and the human psyche. Notable works include Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, Nostromo, and The Secret Agent.
