Alan Alexander Milne was an English humorist, playwright, and author, best known for his children's books about Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin. Before his success with Pooh, Milne was an established playwright and humorist, contributing to and serving as assistant editor for the magazine Punch. He served in World War I as a signaling officer and in World War II with the Home Guard. His early works included novels, plays, and poetry for adults, but the immense popularity of Winnie-the-Pooh overshadowed his previous work and led to him feeling constrained by his audience's expectations.
