Nathaniel Hawthorne

Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804–1864) was an American novelist and short-story writer associated with the American Romantic movement and Dark Romanticism. He is best known for his exploration of moral complexity, sin, and guilt in works set largely in Puritan New England. Hawthorne's major works include The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables, as well as numerous short stories collected in Twice-Told Tales.
