Wayne Johnston (born May 22, 1958) is a Canadian novelist from Goulds (near St. John’s), Newfoundland and Labrador. He is best known for historical and literary novels set in Newfoundland, including The Colony of Unrequited Dreams, The Navigator of New York and The Divine Ryans. His memoir Baltimore's Mansion won the inaugural Charles Taylor Prize for literary non-fiction; he has also received the Writers' Trust Engel/Findley Award and, in 2023, the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour for Jennie’s Boy. Johnston's work has been published internationally and adapted for stage and screen; he has held academic appointments including the Distinguished Chair in Creative Writing at Hollins University.
