Scott Braden Cawthon is an American video game developer, writer, and producer, best known as the creator of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. He began his career developing family-friendly Christian video games, transitioning to horror with the first Five Nights at Freddy's game in 2014, which became a major commercial and critical success. Cawthon has led development for numerous games in the series and has also written novels and screenplays for film adaptations. In 2021, he announced his retirement from active game development to spend more time with his family, though he retains creative control and exclusive rights over the franchise.
