John McGahern
John McGahern (1934–2006) was an acclaimed Irish novelist and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the most significant Irish literary figures of the 20th century. His work, characterized by spare, precise prose, often explored themes of rural Irish life, family dynamics, authority, and the impact of institutional structures. His notable novels include The Barracks, The Dark, and Amongst Women, the latter of which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
