John Burningham
John Burningham (1936–2019) was a celebrated British author and illustrator, best known for his innovative and witty picture books for children. Born in Farnham, Surrey, he attended the progressive Summerhill School and later studied at the Central School of Art. A conscientious objector during his national service, he went on to have a prolific career, winning the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal twice—first for his debut, 'Borka: The Adventures of a Goose with No Feathers' (1963), and again for 'Mr Gumpy's Outing' (1970). His work is characterized by its empathy, humor, and unique artistic style.
