Joan Louise Barfoot (born May 17, 1946) is a Canadian novelist and former journalist. Known for her starkly realist style, her work often explores the domestic lives of women and the complexities of family relationships. She has published 11 novels, including 'Abra' (1978), which won the Books in Canada First Novel Award, and 'Luck' (2005), which was a nominee for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. Her work has been compared to that of authors like Carol Shields and Margaret Atwood.
