
Abraham Verghese
Abraham Verghese (born May 30, 1955) is an Ethiopian-American physician, novelist, and memoirist. Trained as a physician in Ethiopia and India, he is a longtime professor of medicine (Stanford University) and is known for writing that bridges medicine and literature. His notable books include the memoirs My Own Country and The Tennis Partner and the novels Cutting for Stone and The Covenant of Water. He has received numerous honors including the National Humanities Medal (2015) and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2023).
