Roch Carrier OC FRSC is a Canadian novelist and author of "contes" (a very brief form of the short story). He is among the best known Quebec writers in English Canada. His most famous work is "The Hockey Sweater," which is considered an iconic piece of Canadian literature and is often seen as an allegory for the relationship and tensions between francophones and anglophones in Canada. A line from the story appears on Canadian five-dollar bills. Carrier has written numerous novels, short stories, plays, film and television scripts, essays, and poetry. Several of his works have become classics and are used in schools and universities worldwide. He served as head of the Canada Council and as the National Librarian of Canada.
