Deon Meyer
Deon Godfrey Meyer is a South African thriller novelist and screenwriter, writing primarily in Afrikaans. His works have been translated into 28 languages and have gained international acclaim. Meyer's novels often explore contemporary social issues in South Africa, including the legacy of apartheid, and are typically set in the Cape Town region. His main characters are often flawed but empathetic police officers. Before becoming a full-time author in 2009, Meyer had a varied career as a journalist, advertising copywriter, Internet manager, and brand strategist. He has also written numerous scripts for television and film, and has produced and directed movies in Afrikaans.
