Cris Beam
Cris Beam is an American author and professor known for her nonfiction books on transgender teenagers, the U.S. foster system, and empathy, as well as a young adult novel and a short memoir. She has taught creative writing at Columbia University, New York University, and The New School. Beam has also taught at Bayview Women's Correctional Facility. Her work has appeared in numerous national magazines and on the public radio program This American Life. She has an MFA in nonfiction from Columbia University.
