Hiromi Goto is a Japanese-Canadian writer, editor, and instructor of creative writing. Born in Chiba-ken, Japan, she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1969. Her work often explores themes of immigration, cultural hybridity, race, gender, and identity, frequently blending elements of magical realism, folklore, and fantasy with psychological realism. Goto's writing is known for its exploration of diasporic experiences and critiques of systemic inequalities. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, the James Tiptree, Jr. Award, and the Sunburst Award. She has also served as a writer-in-residence at various institutions and is an active member of the literary community.
