Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor (née Coles; 1912–1975) was an English novelist and short-story writer. She was educated at The Abbey School, Reading, and worked as a governess, tutor, and librarian. In 1936, she married John Taylor, owner of a confectionery company, and they lived in Penn, Buckinghamshire. Her first novel, 'At Mrs. Lippincote's,' was published in 1945, followed by eleven more. Her short stories were published in magazines and collected in four volumes. She also wrote a children's book. Taylor's work is characterized by its precise prose and understated style, focusing on the nuances of everyday life and the behavior of women in contemporary society. She was a friend of novelists Ivy Compton-Burnett and Robert Liddell.
