Pauline Holdstock

Pauline Holdstock is an award-winning British-Canadian novelist, essayist, and short fiction writer, known for her literary fiction with a focus on historical settings. Born in England, she immigrated to Canada in 1974 and resides in Victoria, British Columbia. After a decade of teaching in the UK, the Caribbean, and Canada, she began her full-time writing career. Her novels have been published internationally and have been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Giller Prize and the Commonwealth Writers' Prize. She has also won the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize and the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize. Holdstock's work often explores themes of human nature, identity, and the complexities of history, with a distinctive narrative style that blends meticulous research with compelling storytelling.
