Lester del Rey (born Leonard Knapp, June 2, 1915 – May 10, 1993) was an American science fiction author and editor. He was known for his many juvenile novels, particularly those in the Winston Science Fiction series, and for co-founding Del Rey Books with his wife, Judy-Lynn del Rey. His career began in the late 1930s, and he published numerous short stories and novels, often exploring themes of human potential, technology, and morality. Del Rey also had a significant career as an editor, working for various magazines and publishers, and co-editing the Del Rey Books imprint, which became a major force in science fiction and fantasy publishing. He was recognized with several awards for his contributions to the genre.
