Rebecca Sacks

Rebecca Sacks is a Canadian-American-Israeli author, composer, and mezzo-soprano. She graduated from Dartmouth College and later earned an MFA from the Programs in Writing at the University of California, Irvine. Sacks worked as a journalist for Vanity Fair before moving to Israel to study Jewish Studies. Her dispatches from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem have been published in journals such as The Paris Review Daily. Her debut novel, "City of a Thousand Gates," was awarded the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize for fiction in 2023. She also holds an MFA in composition and theory from Brandeis University and a BA in music from Tufts University. As a composer, her music has been performed internationally, and she has a background in jazz and classical piano. She is also a mezzo-soprano with a repertoire spanning opera, art song, and oratorio.
