Margaret Douglas was a Tudor noblewoman, known for her poetry and her significant role in the political landscape of 16th-century England and Scotland. Born in 1515, she was the daughter of Margaret Tudor, Queen of Scotland, and Archibald Douglas, Earl of Angus. She was a niece of King Henry VIII of England and later became the grandmother of King James VI of Scotland and I of England. Douglas was a lady-in-waiting to several English queens, including Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard. Her life was marked by political intrigue, including a secret romance with Lord Thomas Howard, which led to their imprisonment in the Tower of London. After her release, she married Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox, and their son, Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, married Mary, Queen of Scots. Douglas's poetry, often addressed to Lord Thomas Howard, is preserved in the Devonshire Manuscript. She died in 1578.
