Walter Harrison Cady (1877–1970) was an American illustrator and author, best known for his "Peter Rabbit" comic strip, which he wrote and drew for 28 years. He had a long association with Thornton Burgess, illustrating the writer's books and daily newspaper column, "Bedtime Stories." Cady's career spanned over 70 years, during which he illustrated for numerous publications, including "St. Nicholas Magazine," "Boys' Life," "The Saturday Evening Post," "Ladies' Home Journal," "Good Housekeeping," and "Country Gentleman." He also authored several books with his own illustrations, such as his "Butternut Hill" series. Affectionately known as the "bug painter," Cady was a beloved member of Cape Ann's summer art colony and is considered one of the last links to the nation's Golden Age of Illustration. He made Rockport, Massachusetts, his permanent summer home in 1920.
