Juliet E. McKenna (born 1965) is a British fantasy author best known for a number of series and standalone novels that blend epic fantasy with strong historical and mythic influences. Born in Lincolnshire, she studied Greek and Roman history and literature at St Hilda's College, Oxford, later working in personnel management and bookselling before becoming a full-time writer. McKenna's work often foregrounds female perspectives and political/military detail; she also publishes historical crime fiction under the pseudonym J. M. Alvey. She is active in the UK fantasy community, has served as a judge for several awards, and received the Karl Edward Wagner Award for special achievement in 2015.
